This is the First and Only Time I’m Going to Step on the Elementary Soapbox

I really wish to stop seeing this endless Fandom War over Elementary vs. Sherlock.

But this is fandom and I’ve accepted that there is an element of fandom that regularly acts like a spoiled two year old child. Then again, this may be a disservice to two year olds everywhere so kids, Big Sister Stitch is awfully sorry. I apologize.

But I digress. I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for the Fandom Wankery to stop. It still won’t stop me from wishing, though.

I haven’t seen Elementary. I actually don’t plan to see it anytime soon, but that’s not because I hate Lucy Liu or Johnny Lee Miller or whatnot. Frankly, I’m still caught up in the bright and shiny of Sherlock BBC and I’m not likely to change that any time soon.

I may watch Elementary eventually. Of course, comparisons to Sherlock BBC and even the RDJ Sherlock are inevitable. I may like it. I might not. If I do, then, great, I have another fandom pool to wallow in. If I don’t, then no big deal, there’s plenty of other fandoms to go to.

I’m not going to pick on other people for liking it. I’m not going to pick on other people for hating it. Because, the last time I looked in a mirror, OMG I’m a GROWN UP. Well, sort of. I’m a Grown Up as far as I really think Sherlock Holmes is a fandom that will always survive endless interpretations, both good and bad and we’ll always have our opinions on which Sherlock interpretation is the best or if we ought to swear by ACD canon like it’s the Bible etc. etc.

I think we can all agree on a few things - Sherlock Holmes, John Watson and their stories are awesome. I think we can all agree that the fandom has been incredibly lucky in that we have had some fantastic actors and now, at least one fantabulous actress, to take on the roles of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in film and television.

I think we can all agree that we came to this fandom because of the numerous Sherlock incarnations - whether we first encountered the original ACD stories or watched a Sherlock film or seen him on the tv. And that is actually the most important thing of all.

Now if y’all excuse me, Watson the Puppy thinks I got better things to do than do a tumblr soapbox thing. In his considered opinion, the two of us ought to play for a while, yeah?
